Darlene Storrar has formally signed the Declaration as Under Sheriff for Cheshire for the year 2026–2027, during a ceremony held at Norton Priory Museum and Gardens on 27 March 2026.

The signing took place in the presence of the newly appointed High Sheriff, Lynn Pegler DL, and was witnessed by Patricia Peters JP, Chairman of the Cheshire Bench.

Lynn Pegler was installed on the same day, taking on one of the oldest secular roles in the country, with origins dating back more than 1,000 years to Saxon times. The position is appointed annually by the monarch and plays an important role in supporting the Crown, judiciary, emergency services and voluntary sector across the county.

Speaking following her installation, Lynn Pegler described the year ahead as an opportunity to “hit the ground running”, with a focus on promoting arts and culture, celebrating Cheshire’s waterways, and championing the work of local charities and community organisations.

Her priorities for the year also include supporting reading initiatives and raising awareness around digital safety for children, working in partnership with organisations including the Canal & River Trust and the Cheshire Community Foundation.

The ceremony brought together key civic and judicial figures from across the county, marking the beginning of a new year of service within Cheshire’s long-standing civic tradition.
