MPS reject the Assisted Dying Bill – where does that leave those wanting to plan?

24 September, 2026

The Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill was approved by The House of Commons on 20th June 2025.  However, on its second reading on 11th September 2026, it was rejected by 286 votes to 270.

It has been suggested that those in favour of changing the law could bring forward another attempt as soon as next year in 2027.

In the meantime it is worth planning in other ways; making sure your Will is up to date and that you have prepared and registered of Lasting Powers of Attorney for both your finances and health and care decisions, should you need support in later life.
